Shot Put Queen Ends Drive For Five: Adams Out Of World Champs

Valerie Adams Bows Out Of Beijing

The women’s shot put world title will be out of the hands of Valerie Adams of New Zealand for the first time since 2005 as she has announced she won’t contest the event in Beijing. Adams has won the last four editions of the world championships, as well gold at the 2008 and 2012 Olympic Games, and it is a third Olympic title which is now taking priority. This year had been a comeback season following surgery and now the towering Kiwi has decided that being 100% for Beijing is more important than risking further injury in challening for a 5th consecutive world title.
