Big interview: Belgian super miler Pieter-Jan Hannes

We caught up with newly minted Belgian mile record holder Pieter-Jan Hannes and he gave us some excellent insights in his own inimitable and charismatic fashion. Here’s some tasters:

Van Damme versus Pre

“Ivo. No doubt. He had the same rebellion spirit, ran faster times and did get two medals all at the age of 22. I’m not saying Pre wasn’t a legend. Ivo just is an even bigger one.”

On drugs and TUE’s

“There is really no point in banning everybody on the hard stuff like steroids and EPO but still allow TUE’s for everything. I’m sure I can beat 10 medical tests so I’d be allowed to use a dozen of TUE’S. But I really couldn’t get the same pleasure of my performances as I do right now knowing it could possibly be due to the right cocktail of (grey area) drugs.” Read the wide ranging interview here

Morton Magic

The Morton Games just keeps on getting better. Yohan Blake was the star of the show along with some top class middle distance races including Ciara Mageean’s mile victory. Results and race videos are here

English back in business

Mark English put his European U23 Championships disappointment well and truly behind him as he clocked a season’s best of 1:45.49 for 800m at the London Anniversary Games. Check out his race below where he was bested only by the world record holder, the 2012 Olympic silver medalist, and the 2014 European Champion. Watch his race here

TUE Tuesdays: The Ma Family Army

Genzebe Dibaba smashed one of the most controversial records on the books in Monaco last week. When listening to the commentary and to analysis afterwards, you will have heard all about the Chinese of the 90’s and of Stuttgart 1993.

So for all the young kids out there, who are these Chinese? Are they a great bunch of lads or are their records extremely dodgy? Read more about them here

JTG finish line with Ryan Gregson

The Australian 1500m record holder didn’t have his best day at the Morton Games but he continues his build-up for the World Championships in Beijing. The Australian gives us the inside line on his life and career. Read what makes him tick here

Ronan Duggan

Ronan Duggan is an athlete, coach, athletics fan and, most importantly, was once named Bandon AFC's under-12 Player of the Year. He was once a promising athlete but is now a promising coach, teacher and part-time athletics writer/broadcaster. While an 800m runner himself, Ronan has coached everything from pole vault to 10km with varying levels of bluffing. He has regularly been threatening to do something for years but is yet to deliver. He is regarded as our expert on the American running scene, though has yet, to prove his knowledge in this realm.
