Irish Interviews and Races after Day 1 of European u23s

Day 1 of the European Under 23 Championships are now over, no irish qualifying onward towards finals later in the week. We present Athletics Ireland interviews with today’s competitors.

Brandon Hargreaves and Kevin Dooney after the 10000m

Dooney and Hargreaves finished 11th and 12th in this race running 29:58.41 and 30:06.73. 5 Athletes ran personal bests in front of them as Ali Kaya, formerly of Kenya now of Turkey, won by just over a minute in 27:53.38.

Fine runs in trying conditions.

Dempsey McGuigan post hammer in Tallinn

Dempsey McGuigan ended up a solid 16th overall just missing out on the final. He threw a best of 65.09m but having thrown 66.90m earlier this year he was a little indifferent to his efforts.

Close but no Cigar for 100m Women

Cliodhna Manning (Kilkenny City Harriers) was the best of the Irish, she went in heat 1 and ran 11.79 seconds to finish third in her heat. Phil Healy (Bandon A.C) went in Heat three and ended up in fourth place in her heat in 11.81. Irene Siragusa of Italy got the last spot in 11.77 so Manning and Healy finished 10th and 12th overall.

Ronan Duggan is an athlete, coach, athletics fan and, most importantly, was once named Bandon AFC's under-12 Player of the Year. He was once a promising athlete but is now a promising coach, teacher and part-time athletics writer/broadcaster. While an 800m runner himself, Ronan has coached everything from pole vault to 10km with varying levels of bluffing. He has regularly been threatening to do something for years but is yet to deliver. He is regarded as our expert on the American running scene, though has yet, to prove his knowledge in this realm.
