Symmonds does it again
Nick Symmonds beat out all the competition to win his sixth U.S. title in the 800 meters, running 1:44.53. Duane Solomon lead out the field in under 50 seconds but just like the fable of the hare and the tortoise, Symmonds was five metres back off the pace and held his steady pace all the way to the finish while Solomon’s early pace meant he crashed out of the top three.

Erik Sowinski and Symmonds’ training partner, Cas Loxsom were the other two qualifers.

Prandini produces over 200m

Jenna Prandini, smashed her the University of Oregon school record, running in front of a home crowd.She became only the second collegiate athlete ever to win a U.S. title in the 200. Prandani explained “I just got out hard and worked that curve and once I came off the curve I had to stay relaxed, In other 200s I’ve had a problem with tightening up at the end and I was able to stay calm, stay relaxed and finish that race. Her time was an excellent 22.20 and she will also feature for the US over the 4 x 100m distance as part of the relay pool.

Is Usain Bolts Career Over?

Is the greatest of all time, Usain Bolt, the Jamaican on the way down and out? We have had the boltdown, maybe now we are having the countdown to Bolt’s first proper loss over 100m and 200m. After a poor 2014 where foot surgery meant he only raced thrice are we seeing a similar effort this year? His current seasonal best is 10.12 seconds, the signs are not good. His recent withdrawal from the Jamaican Championships has put him under further scrutiny.

Lauryn Williams- I was offered Testosterone

Williams who won an Olympic silver medal over 100 metres was offered hormone treatment by her Doctor who was also Tyson Gay’s doctor. The sprinter finishing second to the Belarussian Yulia Nestsiarenka in Athens speaks out against the drug users in our sport. When offered the substance, she replied “‘If I can’t cook it in my kitchen then I don’t need what you got, mister”

Dont call me a liar
Kara Goucher struck back at former coach Alberto Salazar on Sunday at the US Championships stating that she did not like getting labeled a liar. Goucher has also stated she has been in contact with USADA(U.S. Anti-Doping Agency) since 2013. She also claimed she would welcome having to testify under oath.

“I understand if you read it through, it looks like I am a liar. I don’t like being labeled a liar,”

Ronan Duggan is an athlete, coach, athletics fan and, most importantly, was once named Bandon AFC's under-12 Player of the Year. He was once a promising athlete but is now a promising coach, teacher and part-time athletics writer/broadcaster. While an 800m runner himself, Ronan has coached everything from pole vault to 10km with varying levels of bluffing. He has regularly been threatening to do something for years but is yet to deliver. He is regarded as our expert on the American running scene, though has yet, to prove his knowledge in this realm.
