No doubting Thomas as Gillick bids farewell

This week we bid farewell to David Gillick as he brought the curtain down on a golden generation of Irish sprinting alongside Paul Hession and Derval O’Rourke.

As one chapter closes another one opens and we had an in depth interview with rising star Thomas Barr – the new Irish 400m hurdles record holder (48.90) and currently ranked number 3 in Europe for the distance. The Ferrybank athlete tells us all about his introduction into the sport and his medal aspirations for the Europeans in August.

We review all the action on the road and track action and look ahead to the Diamond Leagues in Lausanne and Paris, the Belfast international and the Irish junior and U23 championships in Cork on Sunday.

We also have a competition at the end of the show to win a pair of New Balance runners courtesy of David Gillick who is an ambassador for the brand. You’ll have to negotiate four questions to run away with a fresh pair of kicks.

Con Houlihan once told me that tomorrow is now. In taking on this venture I’ve started to try and put his words into action.

I worked for Con from 2007 till his passing in 2012 taking down his copy and a whole lot more. I have a Con Houlihan section which will go in to more depth on that.

I’m a long-time contributor to the Irish Runner magazine and am also working for the Irish Examiner.
