Irish DMR team set for New Balance Indoor Games

An Irish Distance Medley Relay team is set for the New Balance Indoor Games on the 31st of January in the Armory.

It has been in the planning for the last number of months but the athletes have received confirmation today of their entrance into the 1200m, 400m, 800m, 1600m DMR relay.

John Travers will lead out the team on the 1200m leg followed by Brian Gregan on the 400m leg who will hand over to Mark English on the 800m leg with Ciarán Ó Lionáird anchoring the team on the 1600m. Declan Murray is the alternate if anyone pulls out. He may also compete as part of the New Jersey New York Track Club team or in the individual 600m if he’s not selected.

Gregan, Murray and English are all currently on a warm weather training camp in Stellenbosch in South Africa while Ciarán Ó Lionáird is on a training camp in Flagstaff. You can read Ó Lionáird’s blog on the training camp here

Con Houlihan once told me that tomorrow is now. In taking on this venture I’ve started to try and put his words into action.

I worked for Con from 2007 till his passing in 2012 taking down his copy and a whole lot more. I have a Con Houlihan section which will go in to more depth on that.

I’m a long-time contributor to the Irish Runner magazine and am also working for the Irish Examiner.
