Pollock pips thriller as Britton dominates in Dundalk
Fionnuala Britton swept all before her at the GloHealth National Inter County Cross Country Championships in Dundalk IT sports grounds as Paul Pollock won a thrilling three-way sprint finish yesterday (November 23rd).
Britton booked her spot for the European Cross Country Championships in Samokov, Bulgaria on the 14th of December when she won the 8,000m race in 26:59. Michelle Finn (Leevale) and Laura Crowe (An Riocht) filled the minor placings in 28:04 and 28:11 respectively.
Below is a post-race video interview with the Kilcoole AC athlete where she compares her fitness to last year and the likely challengers in the Europeans.
While Britton had a runaway victory, it was a much closer affair in the men’s 10,000m race with three athletes, Paul Pollock, Mark Hanrahan and Mick Clohisey, duking it out in the finishing straight. Pollock prevailed in 30:40 to Hanrahan’s 30:42 and Clohisey’s 30:43. Below is clip of the finish and also an interview with Paul Pollock.
Ennis Track’s Kevin Mulcaire impressed in the junior men’s race to win the 6,000m race in 19:05 while Hope Saunders of Clonliffe Harriers caused a minor stir in winning the junior women’s 4,000m in 15:03.
