Flowers of Scotland Flourish In Samokov

Samokov proved a happy hunting ground for the Scottish female contingent at the 2014 European Cross Country Championships. Rhona Auckland claimed individual gold in the women’s U23 race as well as picking up a silver for her team’s performance. Women’s senior team captain Steph twell put in a brave performance in seventh place, one spot behind former double champion Fionnuala Britton of Ireland. We caught up with the two medal winners with video interviews below.

Rhona Auckland after taking the women’s U23 title speaks of how “the course really suited” her style of racing. She was really pleased this victory after being second u23 accross the line at the Brittish trials in Liverpool last month. The Edinburgh Cross country is next in her race plan for this winter season.

Happy to back mixing it with the lead group, Steph Twell “left it all there” in her efforts as team captain. With concerns over the course conditions, she “put any hesitations behind” her to secure 7th place and team gold.
