English makes his Mark

UCD’s Mark English was the star of the show at the Woodie’s DIY AAI Games last Sunday where he set a new national indoor 800m record of 1:46.82 breaking Daniel Caulfield’s 13-year-old record.

We asked how good can Mark English be and how low can the Irish records go with the current middle distance renaissance.

David McCarthy was another star performer breaking the 3:40 1500m threshold for the first time and Amy Foster (7.40 for 60m) and Ciara Everard (2:04.69) were the leading women on the day.

There’s plenty of discussion on questions from our listeners from the serious to the downright wacky: Should the Interclubs be scrapped?; Who’s your favourite Winter Olympian?

The indoor season is well underway and if you fancy another live stream at the University Championships on Friday, then get giving on www.ntrai.com. Enjoy.

Con Houlihan once told me that tomorrow is now. In taking on this venture I’ve started to try and put his words into action.

I worked for Con from 2007 till his passing in 2012 taking down his copy and a whole lot more. I have a Con Houlihan section which will go in to more depth on that.

I’m a long-time contributor to the Irish Runner magazine and am also working for the Irish Examiner.
