Ciara chases Olympic qualifier in Italy

Ciara Mageean will be targeting Olympic qualification over 1500m when she takes to the track in Rovereto, Italy today (Tuesday).

The UCD athlete decided to skip the IAAF World Championships having qualified through the quota system to focus fully on recovering from injury and build up her fitness. In the interim period she put in a confident display to win the 1500m at the British Milers Club in Solihull in 4:07.31.

Now she has eyes on the Olympic qualifying mark of 4:06.00 in Rovereto. An Riocht’s Laura Crowe is also in the women’s 1500m and will go on to Rieti to compete over 800m.

Thomas Barr (Ferrybank) will run his last race of the season at the Brussels Diamond League on Friday in the 400m hurdles while Kerry O’Flaherty (Newcastle) runs in the 3,000m steeplechase.

Mark English’s (UCD) season continues at the Great North City Games this weekend over 500m. English improved the Irish best over 600m finishing second at the Flame Games in Amsterdam last Saturday in 1:15.71.
